Race report 23rd july

The sun was out this weekend and so were the Minster Miler Members, maybe not in quantity but definitely quality! Two different events, one local, one further afield, one a 10k trail, one a marathon trail event. However both have been described by our members as the ‘Hardest Hilliest’, ‘Most stupid’ and in the most ‘Crazy heat’ ever!!

We had two hardy members turn up in search of shiny gold, at the Buckland Bolt to take on the demanding 10K trail run around the hilly Blackdowns. The results are in and we have a club winner!!!!! The lightening quick Dan Cahill came in 1st overall in a time of 39:11 following closely in 6th was Stuart Gold in under the 50 minute marker. The unique prize on offer for each finisher was some local timber with a bolt driven through it. Makes a lovely change but we are not sure hanging these around your necks is a wise idea!

Secondly we have had two ‘Heat seeking’ missiles head to Bath in a pickle for the ‘Relish’ Bath running festival. Ed Clements finished an incredible 6th overall on the gruelling ‘Stupid, Stupid, Stupid hilly, hardest run of his life’ Marathon in 4hr:11. With half of the starters failing to finish must lay testament to the severity of this race! Nina Wagstaff took on a similar mission on similar terrain on the 10K version of this trail series race. Hoping to not aggravate her Achilles pain she still managed to kick her heels to a fine 4th overall and incredibly the first lady home in 49:10.

Well done all, a terrific display and a credit to the club.
